Instagram posts can contain different types of images, and the result can depend on the post itself.
Single-photo posts
These posts contain one main image. Copy the post URL and use it with the downloader above.
Carousel posts
A carousel contains multiple photos or videos that you can swipe through in one Instagram post.
If the downloader supports the specific carousel URL, the available media can be processed from the same post link. If only one item is returned, the post or its available media may limit what can be retrieved.
This is worth checking before repeatedly trying different links: a carousel is still one Instagram post, even though it contains several pieces of media.
Download Instagram Photos on Your Phone
You can save an Instagram photo without sending the link to a computer.
On Android, open the Instagram app, find the post, tap Share, and copy the link. Open this page in your browser and paste the URL into the downloader.
On iPhone, copy the post link from Instagram and open the downloader in Safari. After the download starts, check your browser’s download area or the Files app to find the saved file.
If you’re downloading several photos, keeping the downloader open in a separate browser tab can make the process easier.
Why Not Just Take a Screenshot?
A screenshot is useful when you only need to remember something on your screen, but it isn’t the same as downloading the image.
A screenshot captures the visible part of your display. It can include interface elements, crop the image, or have a lower resolution than the media being displayed.
A direct download, when available, gives you an image file rather than a screenshot of the Instagram interface.
For photos you own or have permission to save, this can be more convenient when you want to keep the image for later.
Why Does the Downloaded Photo Look Different?
A downloaded Instagram photo may not be identical to the original file that the creator uploaded.
Instagram processes images before displaying them, and the version available through a post may have been resized or compressed. The size of the downloaded file can therefore vary between posts.
A larger file size also doesn’t automatically mean that an image is the original quality. If you’re comparing a downloaded image with the creator’s source file, differences in resolution or compression are possible.
When an Instagram Photo Won’t Download
A few common problems can prevent a photo from being retrieved.
The post was deleted
If the original Instagram post no longer exists, its media may no longer be available through the URL.
The account is private
A private post isn’t made publicly accessible just because you have its URL. The downloader does not bypass Instagram’s privacy settings.
You copied the wrong URL
Make sure the link belongs to the actual photo post. A profile link, hashtag page, or Instagram homepage URL won’t identify the specific image you want.
The post contains multiple items
For a carousel, make sure you copied the link to the post containing the photos rather than a different Instagram page.
The connection or browser interrupted the request
If the download stops unexpectedly, try refreshing the page and submitting the same post URL again. A stable internet connection can also help with larger image files.
Where Is the Instagram Photo Saved?
The location depends on the browser and device you use.
On a computer, check the browser’s Downloads folder.
On Android, the image will usually be available through your browser’s download list or the phone’s file manager.
On iPhone, check Safari’s downloads or the Files app, depending on your browser settings.
If the file downloaded successfully but you can’t see it in your Photos app, check your Files or Downloads folder first.
